I bought one of these PSU's and I am expecting it tomorrow.I checked around and it is not the type of power supply you are going to get a super discount on anyways. These PSU's are really whisper quiet.:D

The all important question is what Athlon's it is approved for? I've read that none but the most recent will even run a 1.4GHZ Athlon

Are you gone? This is a 430watt ENERMAX PSU.... not some junky generic crap. I'll bet my left NUT that it's compatible with the 1.4GHz Athlon... even the ones that have been tested to overclock to 1.7GHz. The only reason you'd need a better PSU than this would be if you're running a serious server.
Anyway, I believe the 430w version is the whisper quiet version, right? The 450w version isn't... I'd opt for th 430w version then. And has anyone posted a place that sells this one for cheaper cause I was gonna get it myself soon.

well, depends. some (future) athlon motherboards need the extra 12 volt lines from the ps requiring a different power supply.

Actually, the Enermax EG451P-V, 450 watt power supply is only AMD Approved up to 1Ghz. From what I understand, this is because the Enermax PSU cannot supply a very good +5 voltage. This is not the same model Newegg is selling. That particular model isn't even listed on AMD's list of approved PSUs. While it may work just fine at 1.4Ghz, there is no guarentee from AMD that it will work at that speed. My friend however has this PSU and its running a 1.2Ghz Athlon just fine.

Here's the link to AMD's recommended Power Supplies: Link

Also, this is probably not the Whisper version of the PSU. The whisper model is the :

EG465P-VE(FC) model. Newegg's model is the EG465P-VE. Both models are 431watts (Check Enermax's web site).

The Enermax PSU's are great power supplies, but as of this point, they're not AMD approved for anything above a 1Ghz Athlon, and this particular model hasn't even been tested yet, although I would imagine that they would work just fine up to 1.4Ghz.

If you check the overclocking forum and see some of compuwiz1 posts..it appears to get good stability in overclocking some of these power hungry TBirds a 400W PS is crucial...also he uses a Enermax 400W+..just not sure of the model..so while it may not be approved the 431w ps by Enermax is highly recommended by many O/C now...
This is my 2 cents worth or not oyu be the judge...

I'm using the Enermax EG465P-VE to run my 1 Ghz AXIA at 1425 Mhz without any problems.

Like rpr I'm doing the same and then some for months...But don't anyone get any idea's that this'll do MP (on AMD) as we will all need 1 new PSU...this 1 does come with a P4 adapter.
