The PSU that came with my Aspire case isn't cutting it (I'm not too suprised- comp freezes under load, etc, 20pin mobo connector can't fuel big X800XL). I've heard lots of things about enermax (mostly good), so I wanted to guage some opinions before I ordered this unit. Here is a link at newegg:

Enermax 420W Noisetaker

Is this going to cut it for my system? I like the high power on the dual 12V rails, and I wanted to go for it while it was on sale. The specs are my signature. Just wanted to see opinions (or other suggestions people have) if you think this will fit my needs.

I'm sure it has enough, if not more, to supply the power requirements of the system in your sig.

Actually, the enermax is better, as it has 18 amps per rail, while the blue the blue storm has 16 amps and 15 amps on it's rails. The enermax meets the requirments for 7800gtx sli, so it should be enough for your system.

specwize, it is. but the efficiency of the fortron is higher, one of the highest according to SPCR. also, teh fortron has a 120mm fan (quieter that 2 80's) and sleeved calbes.

i guess it all comes down to personal preferance

It's [Enermax 420W] actually 29A total, balanced between 2 rails. Each rail is allowed/limited to hold at maximum, 18A.

The Bluestorm has more power in total (+2A), however, the Enermax has flexible rails. In any case both PSUs would suffice for the job at hand (OP's sig).

In my opinion, should the system be intended for SLI (or similar) or has installed, a power hungry video card. The Enermax would be better than the Bluestorm in that case. On the other hand, the Bluestorm would likely be the better choice of the two if the CPU is going to be OC'd heavily or if future CPU power requirements increases alot over current CPUs - reasoning behind this.

Per SPCR, efficiency & noisewise, I'd say they're about equal (+/- few % & dBA here & there depending on load). The older Enermax PSU (not in production) on SPCR however is quieter than the newer, more powerful Enermax & Bluestorm units.

Thanks for all your help. Since this unit is going to be in a system that :

1. Probably won't be overlocked (i'll need a new board before going down that road)

and

2. Won't being going SLi anytime soon

The enermax will more than suit my needs. Thanks for all the input.

Could you explain? I don't understand how the fortron has more if the enermax has two 18 amp rails and the fortron has a 16 amp and 15 amp rail. Why isn't the enermax's total 36 amps, and the fortron's 31?

I'll apply what I learned today about these PSUs:

While the Enermax has 18 amps on each, it is a maximum value. There are only 29 amps total to split among those two rails. One rail can have 18, and the other can have a maximum of 11. The total is a maximum of 29, in any combination between the two.

I like the fortron, but the shipping is a little more everywhere (especially ewiz). Zipzoomfly has the same enermax for 5 more dollars w/ no shipping or tax (I live in NJ, where the Egg taxes you). ZZF doesn't have fortron.

Actually, newegg has it for 15 dollars less than zipzoomfly. Zipzoomfly has another 420 watt enermax for 5 dollars more, but it's a different model (and not as good).

Thanks for pointing that out, lol. Almost blew it on that one...

After tax and shipping, it is cheaper at NE.
