Energy level problems :/

Lonyo

Lifer
I'm usually really lazy, never have energy to do anything.
Today, at the end of the day at school I was really tired, and it was a real struggle to walk home (about 15mins walk), when I got home, I had some cake and coke (sugary stuff), and after a bit was fine. I get about 7 hours sleep every night, so I'm doubting it's that, but I always seem to get really exausted, with no real reason why, and recently I've been drinking quite a bit and staying really hungry even after I've eaten more than usual.
Most of those things are signs of diabetes, but I'm doubting it's that, since I'm 16, 5' 9" and about 140lbs, so no overweight problems 😛
Anyone have any idea why I'm suddenly more hungry, thirsty and tired? :/

You don't have to be overweight to get type II diabetes...although it is a large cause of it. A quick and simple 15 minute stop to the doctors office will give you the answers you seek there. You may also want to check into hypoglocemia as well...once again they can tell that from the blood work.

heh, thought this was a physical chemistry thread...

seriously, d00d, try to reduce the amount of refined sugars you consume. It's hard to do, but worth it.

You need more excercise... Go jogging EVERY night for like a 1/2 mile.. It will be hard at first - but you will notice an energy difference.

This happened to me when I first started college.. I studied alot, quit playing any sports (I was real active in high school), and got de-energized. My doctor told me that I absolutely needed more excercise and that walking the golf course on weekends was not going to cut it. So, I started jogging every night.. and I got a lot more energy after about a week of it.

you don't have to be overweight nor old to be diabetic. many children and adolescents can get the disease.

if this is a persistent problem, go to your doctor and get bloodwork and a blood glucose to make sure you're not anemic, hypoglycemic, or diabetic.

I walk to school and back every day (15 mins each way), plus once a week an hour or so of sport, not all that great, maybe I should do some other excercise rather than sitting at a computer for hours :/

Just a thought, you might just be chronically dehydrated. This is actually pretty common since a lot of people don't drink enough and then exacerbate the situation by drinking caffeinated stuff (caffeine being a pretty good diuretic). Try making an effort to slug down more water during the day and see if this helps.

Oh, and as a few have said, lay off the simple sugars. They play all kinds of havoc with your blood sugar levels.

I 2nd that, stay away from sugar. I have been off of sugar for almost 2 years now and my energy level is way higher. I do drink diet drinks but am starting to wean myself from them as well. Boredom could also play a huge role, it leads to depression which could lead to low energy level as well. If you get outside and stay active more and lay off sugar then you should see your energy level go through the roof. GET OUT OF THE HOUSE.

That type of s tuff does not give you real engergy, it is a short little burst. Maybe you need to work on your diet... and get into shape. You won't be so tired any more.

More specifically, stay away from sugary stuff with a high glycemic index (high glycemic index foods provoke the largest insuling cascade and mess with your energy levels the most). You can still have sweet stuff, just try to cut back on the high GI stuff a bit.

Searchable database of the GI of various foods.
