Energizer rehcargable 4 pack AA Nihm 2000 mah and charger 10 bucks.

Just got back from family dollar, they have Energizer rechargable NIHM AA batteries and a charger for 10 bucks. the charger also will charge AAA batteries. I have had great luck with these batteries. Seems hot to me.

One hour AA/AAA charger with 4 2200Mah batteries for $12.99 @ Big Lots. They also have a 8.5 minute charger with AA batteries for $20 if you're really in a hurry.

OK, back from Family General. Not as skanky in there as I expected. Ours are located in, well, not the best parts of town. They had 2 left, I bought them both (bad me).

Here's what they are:

Energizer Recharger with (4) 2000MAh NiMH AA's
Stated recharge times are: AA 2000MAh - 13hr

So these are perfect for me. I had just bought a Duracell 1 hour charger with 4 AA's, but those fast chargers are murder to the batteries. So I can use it for the times I need a quick charge, and use these new overnight ones for all the other times.

Oh and I almost forgot, the Energizer charger is much heavier (weight wise) than the Duracell charger. Weird.

 
ya that is one version they had, they also had a version with 2 red leds on the front, and a plastic shield over the batteries that was removable.. just a little different style, but same price.

Does your Duracell support worldwide voltage (100-240V)? Your Duracell probably uses a switching transformer (better kind) that is much lighter.
 
Yeah, way back when I got my first digital camera (850K pixels at only $1100, ouch) I got some NiMH batts and a charger. That charger had a plastic cover because they got *real* hot when charging. The tiny microscopic little ?tits? that held the cover on broke off, of course, after a month so the charger lived out its life with scotch tape holding on the hinge side. My portable CD player packing son confiscated the charger and a dozen batteries and they have been MIA ever since.

I remember, in my first dig cam, normal Duracell?s would take only 10-15 pictures before the low batt light lit, no kidding. NiMH would run it much, much longer comparatively. I remember how amazed I was at how long. Interestingly enough the camera came with an AC adapter. Of course, if you used it the camera would lock up all the time and you had to do a hard boot to get it going again. Ah, the lovelyness of bleeding edge technology.

What really grinds my gears is 11 years later I just bought a 6MP Sony dig cam with 1Gb SD ProDuo card for $115 that obviously takes much better photos than my $1100 cam can ever hope too.


I just went to look at the Duracell input voltage, snickered at how light it was, then I - picked up the external power supply - to look at it. DOH!

I forgot about that!

So with the external supply considered they weigh about the same. Never the less, the Duracell does use a switcher as it is rated 120-240 as you suspected. The Energizer is rated at 120V.


 
Most of the real cheap chargers use only a timed charging cycle. They don't actually sense the battery state of charge at all, just always run for the same time.

As you get better chargers they have sensors for voltage change and heat change, and then better programming to optimize charging -- some offer discharge cycles and the like -- and beyond that, displays to reveal the state of the battery.

It's my suspicion that this Energizer charger just has a timed 13 hour charging cycle, which is pretty dumb. Better to get a faster charger that senses voltage, at least.

 
Brand on the unit from Big Lots is "Digital Concepts". According to the manual, the charging is controlled by an intelligent MCU, supplying optimal charging current to prolong battery cycle life and accelerate charging speed. Switching mode adapter accepts worldwide AC power source.

Bottom line is that batteries and chargers have become a commodity. All the stuff comes from China anymore and there's no point in being a brand snob on something so inexpensive. Mine works great and if it didn't, it's cheap enough to replace without going thru buyer's remourse.
 
I don't know how many have a Micro Center nearby, but I have bought my NiMh's from there lately. I had great luck with my last 8-pack (2100Mah 'Targus'), and just bought another 8-pack. The second 8-pack brand is Ultralast and they sell for $8.99 for the 8xAA's. They are rated for 2000 or 2200 Mah (I can't remember at the moment).

I will say that the last 12AA's I bought from ThomasDistributing.com SUCKED! They were 'Powerizers' and I bought 36 with 2 friends. They most all have gone bad within 2-years (many died within a year). I had VERY good luck with the Powerex batteries before, I accidently confused the Powerizers with the Powerex and have never been more dissapointed.

EDIT: Perhaps the reason why those Powerex batteries held up so well is that they are MADE IN JAPAN. The Powerex/MAHA batteries cost a bit more (about twice as much), but they certainly held up well for me. /Edit

I still use the chargers that I bought from Thomas Distributing. They are expensive units and sense voltages as well as dis-charge before charging. I didn't like the fact that the image of the Energizer package that Tomer linked to says that the batteries can 'only' be charged 100x. I have charged some of my cells at least 400 times by now. 100 times might last me a year or two (again, my daughter).

BTW: With 2 kids I just can't keep my re-chargable batteries. Either they eat them or toss them. I bought my daughter her own set of 4xAA's and a charger and all 5 pieces are missing (yes, even the charger).
 
I cant imagine people buying non-rechargable batteries at this point, the prices have come down so low, wonder how much regular 4 pack of Energizer non rechargable batts. would cost, I'm guessing 4-5 bucks?
 
In this area, you only pay 2-2.5X more for quality rechargeables over a name brand Alkaline, so yes, pretty ignorant not to buy rechargeable.

However, a lot of people are impatient and forgetful, so they will never buy rechargeable. That coupled with the fact that unless you follow things like this, most have been burnt in the past by crappy rechargeables that sucked and they don?t know that NiMH are pretty good these days.

I saw a 15 minute NiMH charger the other day, made me wonder if they were batteries or capacitors. ;-)

Also, even though I browbeat my family, the NiMH?s still get "lost or tossed" and I can guarantee ever one in my son?s room is dead as a doornail.

Well, for AA's sure, I agree. But I challenge you or anyone to find me some 9 VOLT! NiMH batteries that are the SAME SIZE as normal 9v batteries.

I have tried PowerEx, Accupower, Tysonic, and several others and for some STUPID reason they don't design the rechargeables to be the same size - they're all larger in some dimension which makes it impossible for me to fit them in our Shure wireless microphones (both hand-held and belt-pack).

It drives me nuts having to go buy stupid alkaline batteries for those..but I have no other recourse..... 🙁 :disgust: :|

 
I would have to say no. I let mine go overnight and they are still on. Disappointing to say the least.

I guess I'll just charge them in my other charger that does shut off by itself.
