Enemy at the Gate - worst movie in a long time

Ok, so I thought this was going to be a combination of Sniper (the modern retelling of Carlos Hathcock and a great movie) and Saving Private Ryan. Instead, I got some bad love story with not enough sniping action, damnit! I found it very hard to take the movie seriously at all. Moments that were supposed to be sad made me almost cry in shame because they were executed in such a cheesy manner. The young lad who played Sacha was such a bad actor and was only made worse by the bad mastering of the audio. The director tried to move things in such a fast pace during battles, that you really couldn't get enough feeling for the movie. And the score - WORST SCORE EVER (say this like the Comic Book Guy). They should have put the dramatic score away and hired Danny Elfman or something.

The only other movie I hated more this year was The Mexican.

Don't waste your time with either - go see Traffic.

I went in expecting to see a good movie that i've been waiting excited for over a month to see, came out feeling like i just watched a two star or one and a half star movie at best. Really disappointing. The above stated opinions are my sentiments exactly.

I've been seeing lots of good reviews for it. Are you sure this isn't another case like CT,HD where any deviency from an "action-action-ACTION" formula makes the boys go "booooo!!!"?

The love story was cheesy but the movie over all wasnt terrible.
I liked it plus shes a hottie...
There was plenty of killing and could have been more sniping but all in all it was an ok movie.

I just got back from watching it I have to say I really liked it. I know the sappy love story was kind of dumb BUT if you ignore that part then it was a good movie. Plus my friend had told me what to expect so maybe thats why I liked it more than you guys too.

I think a movie should have been made on this subject. Unfortunately, that wasn't the movie :(
Here is a case of where the story was plenty compelling in itself, and for some reason the director decided to change it, and add typical hollywood bells and whistles, and really messed up this movie. The sad thing is that they had the resources to make it really good, and they messed it up. The scenery was there, the feeling of the war on Russian side was there, but it just all came apart because the plot was so weak. If you are going to make a movie about the greatest battle and tragedy in history, don't cheapen it to fit some typical stereotype of what a Hollywood movie should be.

not enough sniping?! that's it, I am making my own sniping movie...its gonna have 4 four snipers, 500 extras and it's gonna be 2 hours long and 20 lines of script from the snipers and commentary by Chris Rock and a very stoned Jim Bruer.

OK, I shouldn't say I didn't like it all.
It was better then a lot of other movies I have seen this year.
But I really expected a very good movie. I just hate when movies try to be all things to all people.

Sounds like a sequel to Thin Red Line.. Now that was one crappy war movie. Thanks for the heads up, I'll scratch it off my list.

Thin red Line wasn't bad, it wasn't supposed to be an action movie. It was about psychological characterizations for different soldiers in one battle.

If you're looking for a good sniping movie, I'd recommend
the HBO film Shot Through The Heart. Despite what
the title may suggest, the film (thankfully) has nothing
to do with Jon Bon Jovi. Here's the IMDB's plot overview:

"The horrors of war are examined from the view points of
lifelong friends (Linus Roache, Vincent Perez), who end up
on opposing sides in the civil war in Sarajevo. One is an
expert marksman, who trains the snipers used to terrify the
city and the other becomes a freedom fighter, who rejects
his friend's offer to gain an escape from the city."

Anyways, it's a good movie and you should be able to find it
at your local video store.

Sorry to hear about Enemy at The Gates, I was looking forward
to that movie. :(
