Ugh, so little hope of this being any good.

Why are the aliens fighting F-22s? If they came to Earth with that level of a technological disparity, we'd have been entirely wiped out.

The last scene too just seems completely off.
Ender knew what he was ultimately doing at that point and felt completely broken physically and emotionally knowing that he was committing genocide
.

But this is just me probably realizing they can never really tell this story the way it deserves in a 2 hour time span.

Some people might not have read the book and don't need or appreciate such spoilers being posted here.

I'll admit that I don't care much for reading, but Ender's Game was a book that I enjoyed when I was younger. I'm definitely interested in this movie, but I am curious how they'll handle some of the content. You spend a modest amount of time (probably 1/3) of the book in Ender's head whether he's just laying in his bunk thinking, playing the RPG/Action/Puzzle game, etc. There's also a bit of violence in some scenes such as when
Ender defends himself against Bonzo and ends up killing him.

EDIT:

Honestly, the first ah heck War is really just a footnote. They'll probably show what's-his-face taking down the Buggers/Formics.

First off, you're missing a spoiler alert for the folks that haven't read the book. That scene most likely takes place later in the movie.

Also,
Ender didn't know that he just wiped out the Formics until after. In the later books, after feeling guilty over committing genocide on the Formics, he goes out to track down the last remaining queen and act as their ambassador. Hence why the last book is called "Speaker for the Dead".

But this is just me probably realizing they can never really tell this story the way it deserves in a 2 hour time span.

They'll probably cut things out just like the Marvel comics did.

But wait, the whole thing that made the book so awesome was:

We all thought it was a simulation and not the real thing until the very last attack.

Also, I understand that they'll kill the whole Demosthenes and Locke story arc will likely get cut, but I hope they keep the main tenets of the story.

They made Ender too old. There's an excerpt in one of Card's books that say that he specifically did not want Ender to be turned into a teenager for the movie just to pull the teenaged movie viewer crowd. Looks like the studios won that fight.

I'm not sure if they could even make a decent movie by keeping Ender at the right age. If I remember correctly, he's supposed to be... something like six to eight? Although, I thought they were going to age him to 10-12, but Asa Butterfield is 16.

Why do you think that it won't be? The last scene might just be a heavily jazzed-up CGI version of their space fighter game that they play, or it could be the representation of what actually happens when Ender wins his "simulation." Of course, Ender doesn't find out that every lost ship was a human killed, and every enemy was an actual enemy killed until he "wins."

That's scary. Dune was one of the worst sci-fi book adaptations ever.

You're quick. You beat the snake.

No, the scary part is that Dune was actually an OK book, a solid foundation if you will...

I have as much hope for this movie as I do for the adaptation of a Choose Your Own Adventure book.

I have this horrible mental image of the Anakin Skywalker kid from Episode 1 playing Ender.

Just a note, it worked well for A Clockwork Orange, which is a great movie based on an awful book. At least they have that in common.

child actors are terrible and only the very rarest of children are qualified to be in a lead role. if it's between a child actor killing the movie and a teenage actor not quite fitting in with the vision of the author, the latter should be picked every single time.

I liked the Dune movie. 🙁 At least I did when I was nine years old, have not seen it in years. :hmm:

Based on your initial remark, I'm assuming that you mean the latter should be chosen, right? :$

Yeah, but now they're wide open for adding in a love interest. They might even make it Petra! There's an opportunity to really muck things up is all I'm saying.

They have threatened this for years and years, looks like they will finally destroy this novel with a terrible movie that can't possibly be true to the book.

As long as they don't go after Speaker, I will refrain from violence.

I'm not sure if I will see this just because I don't really want to give Orson Scott Card any more of my money, since he's such an obnoxious nutbag these days. It's really a shame, since he wrote some great books.

Very, very skeptical. I love this book and the series in general and I can see them destroying so many things to make it PC but really helped with the plot development (racism, hazing, murder, psychological breakdown, etc.). If they add in a Ender/Petra love story I'm gonna be pissed.

I just lost it.

Never have read the book, nor do I really know what it's about, but the movie looks good.

I would imagine that the first thing on the chopping block would be the scenes involving Valentine and/or Peter that have nothing to do with Ender. Heck, I would imagine that past the beginning, they'll probably cut Peter out completely. Unless they plan on doing another movie, he's really not needed as he takes a far larger role later on.

That also raises another good point, that I'll spoiler tag just for safe measure...

What are they going to do with the relationship between Ender and Valentine? Ender acts really close to Valentine in the books, but he's also only six. It's really more of a maternal bond between them since she protects him from Peter. So, will they cut a lot of that out as it might look slightly creepy with a 12-year-old clinging to his 14-year-old (Valentine is two years older) sister?
