I got this text this morning. Usually, I'm just bothered by robo-callers, who I hang up on or else I pick up and don't say anything.

Hi Carson, I'm Randy, a MoveOn volunteer. We're kicking off a campaing to end Republican control of Congress in 2018 & ensure Democrat Joe Negrus wins the race for... (etc.)

My reply:

If you ever text me again, I'm voting for every Republican on the ballot, and I'm not kidding.

Just received this:

I'm opting you out of texts immediately. Have a great day.

Nice.

Moved from the idiotically named by Purch "OT Discussion Club."

not for nothing, but that text message was a violation of the TCPA (https://www.fcc.gov/political-campaign-robocalls).

You're entitled to $500.00 ($1,500.00 if it was willful) and there are no shortage of TCPA plaintiffs' attorneys (shudder) that will make you their class action plaintiff in a $1 million class action on behalf of everyone that received a similar text.

The More You Know... or some similar nonsense.

Yeah, but it's highly likely OP inadvertently signed up for something without realizing it I would think?

Also, are you sure texts apply? I know roboCALLS do.

I get spammed by email from liberals targeting those that hate Trump with a healthy amount of fear-mongering and request for donations. I got this one recently where they made up some BS self-imposed deadline to somehow make California into a blue state if only I donate money to them:

I'm left wondering how dumb you have to be to fall for their tactics.

I get those texts randomly during local elections. I've never given my contact information out to a political party or to any candidate or elected official, yet they still have my phone number. One of them even texted me happy birthday during a primary election. Creepy.

My favorite part is their 100 reasons. So brain dead they could only come up with 2. One that was repeated 99 times. What a platform.

The problem is the democrats put up some real sh!tshows. Hard to get rid of bad, when you only have as bad or worse to choose from.

Modern day Democrats seem to have embraced a culture of keeping their heads down and expecting the heinousness of the GoP's behaviors as being enough that even a simple "We're not them" message should be enough to coast them to victory. The thing is, it ain't. Not in America.

.

I fear Joe Negrus has a zero percent chance of winning since he does not exist, although Joe Neguse might win. Wait, he is a Democrat. Zero percent there too. :D

Pretty bad typo given it's a black candidate.

^Which leads me to believe the whole thing was probably a scam to get money from unsuspecting people to begin with.

Are you registered with a party perhaps?

Modern day repubs do the same thing. We live in a hopelessly polarized society. Our government exists to do one thing - keep itself in power and bit by bit take away our liberties.

I agree

I think part of it is the PC culture - in addition to the whole "Oh, we can't offend anyone - that would be bad. Best to just not talk to anyone ever" it's basically ruined dialogue and reasoning.

Things can be solved through dialogue and debate - but plenty on both sides clearly don't want to debate because (god forbid) there is a disagreement and each side gives their point of view.

You don't recognize someone trying to make a joke. Admittedly not very funny. Democrats are clearly smarter considering the audience willing to buy all manners of bullshit from Alex Jones and Donald Trump.

Dems clearly need some help with their humor but like Dan Coats said the red alerts are brightly flashing.

Reminds me of the last election, I was pretty much only interested in voting for the president and one or two local offices. There was this lady in the neighborhood that was also running from some secretary or treasury position in the school district or something like that. Whatever it was, this gal was relentless in harassing people to vote for her in any way she could. I'm not sure if anybody used the app "nextdoor", but it's like social media confined to only your neighborhood. Very useful for certain things, very annoying when flooded by political pan handling.

I knew nothing about the office, or what she stood for, but I made damn sure I voted for anyone but her. She didn't win... and I hope I made that happen
