It says on the Windows website that support for 2000 will end on July 13, 2010, i.e. just a couple of days from today.

BUT when I try to update a Windows 2000 computer I have, it is displaying an error as if the attempt to update can not continue because that website is no longer available.

Has support of Windows 2000 already ended ?

Thanks.

That's not how I understood EOS. I assumed all old updates would still be available, but no new updates would be released. I could be wrong, but shutting down the server doesn't make sense. Maybe you have to download the updates manually, and apply them yourself.

You can still download the Updates for Windows 98. I just updated a new Win98 install two weeks ago. So I doubt they'll discontinue the Updates for Windows 2000. One of the things about Win98 is that you have to install Internet Explorer 6.1 to use the Updates.

Off topic: I don't know about you guys, but I'm throwing a funeral for Win2k on Tuesday. I haven't been this excited since NT4 died an undignified death in 2004.;)

Man, I liked windows 2000. Yeah it needs to die at this point, but I remember installing it on my old x2 3800 machine and being stoked at how fast it loaded everything and how little ram it used. It really is the last minimalist Windows OS.

Yep, it is a shame, Microsoft axed it to support just XP.

Now, with fast CPUs, XP is new Windows 2000.

I remember when it came out and both the press an users were raving about its stability and usefulness (NT was very business-centric). I dropped Win98 as soon as I got a chance!

My old Win2000 desktop just got replaced by an HP TM2 tablet in April. Man, that dino was highly dependable! It served me damn well for a whole 10 years. Frankly, I still dislike the eye-candy, the weight and the "I'll treat you like a retard" approach of Windows 7.

RIP Windows 2000.

Long live Windows 2000! The Best Microsoft OS they have ever released! I would still be using it now if it wasn't for not supporting a lot of new computer hardware! Even though I am a gamer. Windows 2000 was the most stable and reliable windows OS ever. Almost as much as linux.
