not to beat a dead horse, and everyone already knows this, but the 2D quality of the matrox is unbelievable compared to the geforce, and if i ever get the itch for a little Q3A demo action, it is a speedy little card. i never gave much weight to 2D until i bought a gladiac, and then got rid of it, and in the interim put in an old 2mb pci millenium and was blown away by the crispness of the 2D. i have been a nvidia owner since the orig. tnt, but gaming is no longer priority 1, and i am happy i have strayed.

you should have got a radeon, 2d is almost as good as matrox, and 3d is much better than the G400

i spent $100. plus if i owned a radeon, then i'd start buying vid games, and the whole viscious cycle would start again.

Plester: Congratulations on your choice. I have had a G400 Max for a while now (Since December of 1999) and I've tried several GeForce 2 GTS cards over the last few months, only to turn back to the G400 Max because of its 2D.

Can't wait for the G800 :)

hehe. I used to play UT using my V3-2K, but text got so blurry. Now I no longer play UT 3-4 hours a day since I put my G400 back. Gaming is no longer my #1 priority either.

I'm considering switching from my 64meg VIVO Radeon back to a G400. I'm not a huge gamer & the W2K performance of the Radeon sucks. I am running the new beta W2K drivers, but they still suck. I love W2K & used to use it 99% of the time, but the radeon is forcing me back in to Win98SE & that blows.
