Ok, You know how the world was supposed to end in the year 2000, and nothing happened?

Well, now that the new millennium is officially gonna start THIS Jan. 1 /2001, do you think the world is gonna end?

What about all the Sh!t happening in the middle east? Think that could lead to nuclear war?

(BTW, I think the world will be fine till be blow ourselves up, or get taken away by aliens :))

Well my friend said Gore will grow a conscience when hell freezes over, and I heard that hell will freeze over when the world ends, and so the answer is NO, the world is not ending.

The world will pass from existence in 4 to 5 Billion years, not before. Any other estimation ignores rational exercising of brain power.

Since brain power is so poorly valued by so many, speculation on this topic will persist regardless.

The world is not going to end for at least a thousand more years... at least.

You might end, but the world isn't.

<< The world will pass from existance in 4 to 5 Billion years, not before . . . >>

I believe when we speak of the end of the world as we know it (I feel fine, really), we are speaking of the world of mankind, not planet earth.

As to the planet earth being around (only) another 4 or 5 billion years - who really knows (and who cares that far into the future)? The 4-5 billion year estimate is of course assuming there is no divine intervention or cosmic disaster (i.e. asteroid impact) to prolong or shorten the timeline.

<< As to the planet earth being around (only) another 4 or 5 billion years - who really knows >>

apoppin,

That's arguably the current maximum age of our beloved gaia. Our Sun will destroy earth at or around that time.

My guess is humanity will expand beyond the limits of earth...and then destroy itself. :p

<< But does anyone alive today really care? >>

apoppin,

There are more important things to focus on, to be sure. But the idea that we expand beyond earth in order to greatly increase our odds of survival is one that shouldn't be discarded. God would certainly approve of this strategy as she has allowed such moves time and time again in the past. It's just good policy.

It's a slow process. The international space station is the first step. Costly? Sure. Mismanaged? OK. Did we need to do it? YES!

You are being so serious today, JellyBaby.

I am sure you know God approves of mankind's plans. Thanks for sharing your view. However, the last time humans tried to build a tower with its top in the heavens, he confused their one language so that "nothing will be withholden from them, which they purpose to do." (Genesis 11:6)

Well, we've got one language again (binary) and a means to communicate to everyone (Internet). Watch out. Think we'll make it off-planet?

The moon. That's as far away as man will ever make it from Earth (alive) IMO.

One day, the Internet will crash and will sink into the vast depths of hell to be never more. Fire will ascend from her for ever and ever! amen.

hehe, j/k ;)
