Encrypted PDF

Received an encrypted PDF.
The password seems to unlock only certain pages from the PDF.
(e.g. when printing it offers the option to print pages 140-186.
Can that be the case?

Are you saying you can VIEW other pages without the ability to PRINT them? Because that would be weird.

If you're saying you can only print the pages you can view, and those pages have page number that doesn't START at "1", then that's not weird at all. Some PDF creation methods embed page numbering from their source document; Indesign, I think, does this when you use the file menu's "create PDF" functions, versus printing to a .ps and distilling.

I can only view/print certain pages.
Was curious if the rest of the document was in there but "locked".
Seems unlikely since the file is really, really small.

Acrobat's built-in security is applied on the document level, not per-page. There might be a third party application to lock out viewing of specific pages, but that would be pointless. If you have pages you don't want someone seeing at all, don't include them.

It's probable that you only have the pages you're supposed to have.

It's pretty difficult to gauge how many pages are in a PDF by file size; pages with text only can add just a few k to a file's size under certain conditions.
