Encrypt/Decrypt Do I need the same software?

If I encrypt a portable HD using Truecrypt on a windows machine, can I decrypt the HD on a Linux or OSX machine using some other encryption/decryption software? (Yes I know the password.)

The Truecrypt container format isn't standardized, I don't even think there is a standardized format for encrypted containers/volumes. However, there is software for all major operating systems that can at least read TC containers. See TrueCrypt#Alternatives. Also, the TC website still hosts software for reading (but not writing) encrypted media for Windows, Linux and OS X.
