Encounter with road raging pickup truck driver this morning

I'm driving to work this morning following a white pickup truck with Arizona plates and anti-Obama and anti-Hillary stickers all over it. I shake my head in disbelief...

We are in the left lane of a divided 2 lane road (2 lanes each direction). I am in the left lane because at the top of the hill, less than 1/4 mile, I'm turning left. Anyway, I see him move into the right lane because there are cones blocking off the left lane. I can see them now because he is out of my way, I couldn't see them until after he changed lanes. I hadn't started moving over yet though because I wasn't sure if they were closing the lane or not. Anyway, before I start moving over behind this moron he jerks the wheel to block me from coming up alongside and passing him (which I wasn't planning on doing anyway once I saw the cones-I would have if he was just moving over because he had to turn right or something). I move in behind him and mouth the word asshole. Then he rolls his window down and flips me off and starts brake checking me. Fucking douchebag.

What the hell is wrong with some people?

I will now wait for ATOT to tell me what I did wrong in this situation.

Here's what you did wrong:

You let it get to you. Next time just take your foot off the gas and give a 50 ft distance. Hell, wave to him if you have to. Nothing makes them more butt-hurt than knowing they aren't getting to you.

He interpreted your failure to get over as an attempt to pass him dangerously.
He didn't predict your inability to see the cones or your intent to turn left.
