encode dvd to 1 file

im trying to encode my dvds to MKV or mp4 format for portability on tablets.
using Handbrake, the output looks terrible during motion. still scene looks great! but when theres a lot of movement, as in fighting scenes, the picture quality decreases dramatically as it becomes blurry/boxy/pixelated.
i have tried AppleTV2 preset with the box "large file size" unchecked as people suggested and that didnt work. am i doing something wrong or should i look for another software?

i never have problems with DVD shrink quality. but now, it would be nice if DVD shrink can combine all those VOB into 1 single file.

oops. looks like MakeMKV is the solution i was looking for!
it works like dvd shrink. pick the chapters, audio, subtitle, and MakeMKV spits out 1 file.

In handbrake under the video tab there's a slider to adjust the quality. Re-encoding my mkvs at 10 gives a good compromise between quality and size on my TF. I use 8 if I want good quality.

Settings at 8 and 10 seems like huge overkill. I would think that your .mp4 would end up as large or larger than the original DVD. I would suggest using the High Profile setting and setting the slider for 18-22.
