I want to plug an optical drive into my netbook through the USB port. I already have a 3.5" external enclosure for an IDE hard drive that I had laying around. Can I plug an optical drive in any IDE external enclosure? Or do I need one specifically for optical drives?
I just want to try different OSes on my netbook, and will probably never need a "USB optical drive" in the future. So if I can reuse my current enclosure, I wouldn't have to spend 30$ on this.
