Enabling remote connections while computer is on standby?

Hi,

I'm stuck on a 56k line for a while, so all my downloads are pathetically slow. Therefore, keeping downloads going at night is one way for me to offset this. The thing is, my computer is ridiculously noisy and it's hard to keep it on in the same room as me when I'm trying to sleep. Does anyone know if it's possible to keep downloading even when it's on Standby or Hibernate mode? The operating system is Windows XP Pro.

Thanks a bunch!

No. Hibernate/Standby are low power modes the system goes into which stops all IO and CPU activity. You can perform no actions, short of wake on lan or wake on ring while in those modes..

Maybe some new quieter fans??

I think you can make network connections if the computer is in ACPI state S1 instead of S3. S1 is a much shallower sleep. ekam

No, you can't make network connections in S1. And definitely not in S3, which is suspend to memory.

Your thinking of wake from lan, which is a specific function of the network card which is about the only processer running in S1.
