enabling dual monitor, not clone or spanned?

title says it all: My laptop had it where I could just click on properties from desktop -->settings --> then right click a little box on the inside of a monitor...but this one doesn't even show boxes in the monitor (on the settings tab). Anyone know how to enable this?

if you have an Nvidia card, go to the nvidia CP > nView > Dual monitors.

If you have ATI, go ATI CP > Displays > enable 2nd monitor -or- ATI CCC > display configuration > click and drag your monitors around

If you have Intel IGP, go intel CP> enable 2nd monitor

Donno where it is if you have like an XGI card or whatever

Normally you just need to go to Control Panel/Settings/Display (or right-click your desktop and choose 'Properties'), then go to the Settings tab. Select the second monitor and check "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor." That will turn on the second display, and by default it should be a second independent desktop.

If that's not working, you will need to tell us more information about your setup. There are controls for this in both the ATI and NVIDIA driver panels (accessed from the same Settings tab, under "Advanced...").
