Enabling 64Bit on a Crippled A64

I recently just found out that my Compaq laptop which was advertised as a Athlon XP-M was actually an Athlon 64 but with 64bit disabled.

Story here:

Is there any hacks or any way to enable the 64bit capability?

I'd guess you would have to have a look at the chip and see if there are any obvious mods to it. IIRC the mobile A64's did not have heat spreaders so this might be easier then with a desktop chip... anyway look for the old bridge cut and post some pics.

Any reason you need 64 bit instructions on your lappy? don't tell me you wanna put 8 gigs o ram in there 🙂.

no not for 8 gigs...just so my laptop wont be obsolete so quick. lol

Is there any software mods or hacks? I heard its probably disabled through their custom bios.

Nope, it's turned off on the CPU and can't be enabled. There's no exposed bridges or pin mods that could help.

EDIT: You could always throw a Mobile Athlon 64 in there.
