Go and modify your Regedit. It will allow you to change any resolution that you want.

;)BTW I forgot
Here's how to change your resolution
1. Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\VIDEO\{3A2C2EBE-ECDB-4A7B-99EC-58117AFDC5E2}\0000\Mon22446688

2. Find 'DefaultSettings.XResolution'. That is your y axis. Edit as a Decimal to what you want it to be. IE 1152.

2. Find 'DefaultSettings.YResolution'. That is your x axis. Edit as a deciaml to waht you want it to be. IE 863.

3. Restart, and your done.

Thanks! I'll try it as soon as I get home. This is a great resolution for those of us, like me, who have trouble seeing 1600x1200 now matter how big the monitor is.

It didn't work. There were actually several registry keys containing the current resolution. I even changed them all, but after a reboot, it comes right back up in 1280x1024. Since I'm using BNC cables on my monitor, I know windows isn't detecting it and preventing me from running 1400.

Any other ideas? I hate that I have to run my 22" monitor in a lower resolution than my 15" laptop screen.

Try adding those lines into your registry.
Also what is the max resolution of your monitor?

I did make the changes to the registry that you suggested, but it didn't work.

My monitors highest resolution is 2048x1536@60hz, and 1920x1440@80hz, although I think it can go higher (but the vid card can't).

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Ok I'll go over this one more time.
Assumming you are on your registry editor, and at "VIDEO", you might find two folders. Double click on the second folder. Another folder will come out and it says "0000". Click on that and look on your right. There are several Y, and X registry binary datas. Locate the first which is known as 0x00000500 (this should have a resolution. For me that this 1280) Locate the second one which is known as 0x000000400 (that would be for me 1024) Edit only these keys!
Hope this helps

EDIT: If its the BNC cables that are causing the trouble, then I am sorry my friend.

Find 'DefaultSettings.XResolution'. That is your y axis.

Uh no, it's your x axis.

Blurry,

Thanks for helping. I did understand your previous posts. It's not a lack of understanding on my part. I find and change the keys you're referring to with no problem. However, after rebooting, not only is my screen resolution still 1280x1024, but the registry keys are reverted back. By that I mean that the registry keys which I just changed the decimal values to 1400 and 1050, revert back to 1280 and 1024 after rebooting.

The BNC cables prevent Windows from detecting the monitor, which doesn't make much difference since I've manually installed the monitors inf file, and even tried switching the monitor's driver to several different manufactures anyway.

I wonder if XP has safeguards against it. I saw this post pertaining to a similar problem.

Powerstrip wouldn't work. I don't know why, but it didn't.

However, I finally got it to work last night by uninstalling the current drivers, and then modifying and installing the older 21.83 drivers. Maybe the newer drivers prevent it. Anyway, 1400x1050 is such a perfect resolution, it sits nicely between 1280 and 1600.

Thanks everyone, for helping.
