Enable or Disable Write-Caching for an SSD?

I read somewhere that it is recommended to disable "Write Caching" if you have an SSD because SSDs don't have a cache or something like that

Is that true? what is the best of course option? Leave it checked (default option) or disable it?

How does this affect performance? Will it increase or decrease performance or would it have no effect?

I've tried both options but found there to be no noticeable difference on my Vertex 2. I decided to just leave it on.

But what about the claim that I heard that SSDs don't even have a write cache buffer and thus it would make no sense to keep it on?

Some SSDs do have a cache, and in theory it should work the same as a HDD. I believe Sandforce based drives don't have any, but I'm not sure if there are more controllers that have bypassed using it.

It probably refers to a cache at the OS level, which can work regardless of whether the drive itself has its own cache. But I thought some non-Intel SSDs might have drive-level write cache, too. Could be wrong, though.
