EN006TM1 Problems

This is an Enermax front panel USB/Firewire transfer device running cables from the back ports to the front of a 5.25" bay. I am having a problem with the IEEE1394 port running very slow and then giving me a device removal error under Windows 98SE. I am using a Gigabyte 8IEXP motherboard and having the problem with a Maxtor X01FWRA080 external hard drive. All connections have been checked and the drive works perfectly when run directly off the IEEE1394 motherboard ports. The USB ports seem to work fine, but (2) removable devices show up in Windows Device manager when only one is plugged in. Does anyone have experience with this device?? Thanks in advance for any comments!
