I just downloaded the Rygar ROM tonight and it's awesome!! The game was made in 1987 for the NES back when I was 6 years old, I can barely remember it.

Anyway, a friend and I have been playing it for about 4 hours straight trying to pass it :) Just wondering if anyone else remembers the game or likes to re-live their childhood gaming days like me :D

is that the one where the guy has the circle blade on the end of a chain and he throws it out? If so I totally remember that game. That is seriously old school. I loved that game too.

I thought that talking about stolen software was prohibited on this board?

Thanks so much Elledan. :)

I've been wanting to play Double Dribble (NES) for the longest time man. Just downloaded JNES, and the ROM. I just played w/ the keyboard, but it still brought back some cool memories. I use to live with some guys, and the only game we had was this one. Me, and one other guy played it to death, and goe really good at it. So good that no one would play us, and the only person who's beaten me at that game after the first week or so was that other guy. We got so good on D that almost all the shots had to be taken from behind the half court line! And we basically just bombed threes all day. Just an ocasional dunk to rub it in. ;)

I was so confident that I went to someone elses house once, where a guy I ended up being good friends with (and lived with in Florida for a year with actually) was "the man" of that house when it came to that game. No one could beat him, and they were all raving about how good he was once I said I'd woop him.

So it ended up as a $20 bet that not only could I beat him, but that I could double his score. He wouldn't bet on a straight game, cause I was too cocky. :)

Well I didn't actually double his score.

I more then tripled it!!! :Q

You wanna see the most shocked group of guys ever? Then you shoulda been there, cause that was the biggest case of jaw-on-the-floor I ever saw. :D

Talk about an easy $20. I was nice enough to buy beers for everyone with his money though. :D

But, of course I played my other buddy a week or so after that, and he beat me. :(

Man I love that game, but I almost forgot how horrible it looks. :)

<<So is the Rygar ROM that I'm playing illegal?>>

If you don't own (or never owned/bought) the game, then you've 24 hours to try out the game, but after that time you must delete it.

Well, that's what they say at least ;)

I don't have any problems with illegal ROM's, as long as people keep buying games as well.

No problem, amb#cog :)

You think Double Dribbel looks horrible? Well, then I bet you haven't played games like Zelda 1 for the NES ;)

Well w/ the gaming puter I have on a flatscreen monitor, and my Dreamcast on a WEGA. Yes I do. ;) hehe

Like I said. I forgot. :)

I am trying to decide if it looks better, or worse then when I played it on an NES, and a cheap old TV??? :Q

And yes I tried Zelda. Man I just didn't get that game at all???

Either way man. Thanks again, and I'll be at your site quite often. :)

ROMs are only illegal if they are still produced. For instance, pokemon game boy games would be illegal, but super mario bros. 1 is not.

LOL

yeah, I've a nice 17" monitor and it looks a *little* different than on the crappy old tv I used to use :)

The RPG's I like for the SNES: Lufia I & II, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu and some others I haven't played for a long time :)

BTW Zelda 1 for the NES is indeed one of the worst games for that console I've ever seen. The game is confusing and has seemingly not a clear target except: "saving the world". Zelda 2 for the NES (I've played that one too) is a huge improvement.

Thanks for visiting my site :)

Original Final Fantasy kept me, and a bud busy for a couple of weeks actually. That was a good RPG IMO.

I'm itching to Super Mario Bros now too iamwiz82. :)

Need to sleep though. :Q

NES emulators are great but my favorite is an Apple II emulator that lets me play the old Apple games. "Wings of Fury" by Broderbund proves that content is king an fancy graphics doesn't mean a game is good.

Speaking of Apple II games, do you know a way to actually use disks and load them Windogg? I have a bunch of disks, but no disk drive or anything.. any solutions??

Basically what iamwiz said is correct. If a game is no longer in production then you can't really 'buy' it either so owning a copy is no longer illegal. I do think there is a waiting time like 1 or 2 years though after production is stopped, and finding a 'new' copy is nearly impossible any longer.

Yeah, I hate to say it but I don't think the copyright expires. I remember seeing an article about (who else) Microsoft going after some people who were putting up versions of really really old msdos programs and msdos itself along with some other old stuff that they don't make or support anymore. Even though the claim was that they were trying to supply old software to people that had boughten it and couldn't get the disks anymore, MS was still trying to shut them all down. They got some quote from some MS b!tch and she said something snooty like, "We don't care if we wrote the software, this year or fifteen years ago, it is still piracy." I wish I could remember the name of the warez. People gave it some special name cause it is software that isn't even produced anymore, somethinglike gravewarez or trashwarez. I don't know, there was a few articles on CNet and stuff about it not too long ago.

[edit]although I think they said if the company that owned the copyright has since gone out of business or is no longer around, then it's ok to d/l the roms and software[/edit]
