Emulators of choice for older consoles

Im mainly interested in getting ps1 and n64 up and running, but im interested in which ones everyone uses here. I remember n64 used to be kinda hard to emulate, and the last time i used a ps1 emulator it looked awful. maybe i had the settings wrong.

Anyways which emulators do you use for these consoles, and with what mods to make them look good:

nes
genesis
snes
saturn
n64
ps1
ps2
(dreamcast? if they have one) <are there any games even worth playing on this?
gamecube
xbox1?

any recommendations?

NES - It's hard to go wrong here. FCEUX is my preference, but I hear good things about Nestopia and Jnes.
SNES - SNES9x and ZSNES are the old standards. bsnes is emerging as a good low-level emulator but doesn't have support for things like compressed files.
N64 - Project64 is the farthest along but they've been stuck on v1.7 development for a long time now. Their high-texture support wasn't that great last I checked, except for the current beta.
PS1 - psX is the most compatible emulator with no frills. ePSXe is the big one with plugins but I've found PSXeven to be pretty good even though it's no longer being developed. Plugins depend, it always takes some configuration to get it where you want it.
PS2 - PCSX2 is the only game in town worth using, they're getting closer to a v1 release.
Gamecube - Dolphin is supposedly coming along.

I was never a big player of the Sega console line. Fusion and Gens are the best for Genesis. Progress of XBox emulation has stalled, I think. MAME is supposed to be a good all-purpose emulator but I've never tried it.

I think the one I tried was epsxe, and I think the reason it want very good was the way I set it up.

Going to try out a few different ones the next few days.

Are all these emulators cross platform btw? I use osx half the time.

Looking back, I could have sworn I tried a ps1 emulator a LONG time ago (2001?) And I remember it looking awesome, even better than a real ps1. I played crash bandicoot on it. Has development made almost no progress since then?

I believe if you use the GPU plugin OGL2 you could add things like AA, Bloom, etc.

PS1 emulation basically went as far as it would in 2005 and no new plugins have been made in the past couple years. You won't see bloom or true AA on the PS1, the hardware never supported it.

These are not cross-platform. Emulator Zone has a list of Mac emulators.

virtualnes.com allows you to play most of the NES ones online

i used jnes and zsnes before and was pleased with them
