Emulator controller (not sure if this would go here or console gaming)

So...I've got the media center setup in the living room and want to do some old school gaming here and again since having (5) consoles hooked to one tv isn't the greatest idea to me. ^_^

So, I've got the emulators ready to go for SNES/N64/NES/Genesis.

I've got (2) ps2 style controllers and they would be perfect cept for the N64, you can't program the right-joystick for the 'C' buttons.

So...I've got 1, 2, 3, 4 face buttons + Start/Select (9, 10). I then have 5, 6, 7, 8 for the triggers. My dilemma with the setup is that the right-joystick is mapped to the face buttons 1, 2, 3,4 so essentially un-usable for me.

I need a controller that either has (6) face buttons + (4) more action buttons and a joystick or...a controller that has (2) joysticks and the right would could be mapped as (4) action buttons.

Any suggestions would be great as I don't want to spend a ton of money on controllers that won't work. What do you use for your N64 emu's??

Thanks in advance!

Borrow a XBox360 and controller and see if you can map the right joystick. If you already have 64 controller that's in good shape (good luck with that lol), you can get a USB adapter for about $10.

What emulator are you using? I was able to program the C buttons to the right stick on my 360 controller.

That said, if you're having no luck, your best bet is probably getting an official N64 and using a usb adapter (http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-64-N6.../dp/8565000168)

I was actually thinking about asking a couple friends to see if they had 'wired' controllers as I've got (2) wireless ones.

The N64 idea is ok, cept that those things wear out too quickly for my taste.

Yea...I've read that it can be done on the 360 (not sure how or what they were using to do it with though).

I'm using a very generic cheap-o controller from ebay, using windows standard drivers. Whenever I go into the setup for it under windows, it lays out 10 buttons. As you press them, it lights up as to which one is which. My right joystick maps out to 1,2,3,4 buttons.

No, I've only used the 'Windows' stuff (I'm not very savvy with gamepads for pc since I don't use them).

I assumed that under the windows panel when it lit up the 1,2,3,4 buttons then it was assigned to those positions, no way to change them. Am I wrong in this logic?

What software would you recommend for accomplishing what I need? I'll try it right when I get home, lol. ^_^

Thanks!

Thanks!

Jmouse in the link I posted is easy to use. I used it to setup my xbox (original) controller for GTA 3 on my PC. The game didn't seem to natively support gamepads properly. It worked exactly as if I was playing the game on a game console. The controls were perfect.

Looking at the update dates on both software though, they're really outdated. I'm not sure of what else is good, joystick 2 mouse is the most recently updated though (2008).

You can also use http://www.autohotkey.com/. I think it's a little bit more complicated though. http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/misc/RemapJoystick.htm

You could also try the 30 day trial of this: http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/. I used it before also, it was pretty simple and straightforward but it costs $20...

*edit* forgot one more piece of software, http://www.eventghost.org/

I use it to make my old ass ATI Remote Wonder work with XBMC, by mapping button presses to keystrokes and mouse inputs. The same idea could be applied to a gamepad though.

You can try joy2key (google it, I'm at work) and try using it. I've used it when I've had problems getting programs to recognize gamepads, but I can't remember ever mapping the right analog to anything, so I'm not sure it will work.

One thing I've been pondering though is this.

I'm trying to get (2) JoySticks mapped out...say if I use AutoHotKey or something to map the keyboard keys, will that interfere w/ having (2) joysticks?

I assume I'll just need to map the keys for P1 and P2 and then coordinate that with the sticks? I'm at work right now or I'd just give it a try. ^_^
