I think this is a BTC drive. For $40, I would recommend an NEC 3540

I bought an Emprex DVD burner from Fry's summer of 2004 for $69 (single layer driver) and have been very satisfied with drive. Retail package comes with black & white face plates, burning software (mine with Roxlio), cables, etc. It's never burned a coaster, burns fast, and is very quiet. No experience with dual-layer drives, but would imagine this is upgraded version. Firmware updates are available via web link included in the box.
