I have a possibility of doing a 3 month contract coming up here quickly.

Only thing is I have my wedding coming up and my two week honeymoon booked already and theres no way of changing it or putting it off.

I'm half tempted to just take the job and in a month when I have to go just terminate the contract early on my end, at least I'll have made a months worth of pay.

However I could mention this up front prior to getting the job that I'd need to take off 2 weeks 1 month after starting but am 99% sure I won't get the contract if they're aware of it.

Seems unethical to me to just take it and quit in a month, but on the flip side I need the income and don't think I'll secure the contract if they know ahead of time.

What would you do?

I'm personally leaning towards just telling them before I continue forward and just hope they'll still want me and let me have off the two weeks, but still have to admit I've been considering the other option just a *little* bit.

Edit

Guess its a moot point now since I've sent off an email and left a vm explaining to the person the situation.

Just gotta wait and see what the response is now.

I'd explain to them that you will need this time off in advance, and that you will return after it.

Make your reasons clear, I'm sure it won't seem as bad if you tell them why you need the time off and the circumstances.

Is there even a remote possibility of ever doing a contract with them (or any of their collaborators) again?

Yep, IT staffing company.

I've done a lot of contracts through them over the years and this is just another one that's come up and that I need the money from if at all possible.

Then it's a no brainer. Tell them. Otherwise you're looking at potentially not getting another contract from them again ever. You want them to think of you as a good worker, not the guy who left them stranded in the middle of a project.

So, which do you need more:

(A) One month of this contract.
(B) All of the buisness through them combined for all the years that you will continue to do contracting work.

What I'm asking is, if you tick them off, are you getting a small short term gain while sustaining a massive long term loss?

I agree and this is a huge consideration. Just could use the months pay big time also, but know it wouldn't be right or worth it in the end.

Just that little voice saying "aww screw it and get the months pay" thats nagging me I guess :p

Well they're few and far between, they haven't been very reliable but every once in a while will come through with something.

I do have a number of other staffing companies I do contracts through also, but every bit helps when trying to pay the bills I guess.

Theres that part of me that agrees considering I've been screwed over by employers in the past but have never done anything remotely bad to one myself.
