Employment Contracts

I love the bit about At-will employment.. e.g. "You can be fired at any time for any reason whenever for whatever reasons we want to"

There is a counter to that...

"You can quit any time you want, for any reason you want, with or without warning."

Grasshopper

unless otherwise stated, the default is usually employment-at-will....lucky me, i'm actually writing a paper about this right now...

Just NDA (software development). Also conflict-of-interest at my last job though only while working there, no non-compete when the company was sold.

"You can be fired at any time for any reason whenever for whatever reasons we want to"

Except if they are firing the employee because they are a member of a federally protected class (race, religion, age, etc. as well as whistleblowers).

I had to sign a NDA and non-compete agreement. As well as something stating that anything I develop under company time becomes property of the company or something to that effect.

or if there is a tort of wrongful discharge in violation of public policy....and there's always a possible implied contract or promissory estoppel claim depending on the situation....

I have that too.

My employment contract stated, "I agree to be undercompensated, overworked and abused relentlessly by morons with than less than half my intelligence. Ass kissing is encouraged. The use of the tongue is optional."

it's about time it was put down in words instead of just being assumed as the thing to do. 🙂
