Empire Total War or this?

wow that actually looks great... much improved graphics. i was hoping for an empire civil war game in the future but this looks great.

Try the Demo out for Total War. I can seriously say that I am tempted to buy the game even though i have barely played the first ones in the series. The graphics are superb and the Naval Battles are very fun and unique

The naval battles were fun, but the land battles seemed too simple...just line up your guys against the others and shoot, while firing artillery.

yeah, it's pretty nice. Supposedly you can get it off steam? I think take command : second manassass is still in print

The developers who made this game will be coming out with a new gettysburg game this spring and it should have better graphical capabilities, so once they release the modding tools that game is going to look even better.

Pretty cool community over there.

Either way, someone else in this thread mentioned the Empire Total War demo and I think that game will be satisfying in totally different ways, I plan on owning both.

This game however is out right now =), and very very cheap

It's so much more than that man. The AI really kept me on my toes the second time, plus, I have my men discharge muskets, then I issue a melee, and charge home with bayonets!!!

I also flank with Hussars and dragoons, skirmishing with the enemy, while using my highlanders as a key shock weapon.

Oh yeah, and your grenadiers have grenades as well as muskets...siiiick!

picked up TC2M about a month ago, great addicting game ( IF you are a civil war buff ) and the amount of mod add ons gives this unlimited play

And I cant wait till War3DII - Gettysburg comes out 😀

Wait until they get naval invasions fixed until you purchase E:TW.

Should hopefully be done in the next couple weeks.

Also wait until the price comes down. Prices always come down after a few months.

I picked up E:TW for $34.99 with free shipping... so if you look hard enough there are sites selling it for less than $49.99. This is my first purchase in the Total War series and I'm absolutely hooked! Great game!

My favorite bit of complexity is that you aren't exactly trying to kill the enemy, you are simply trying to rout them. How you combine your artillery, line infantry, and cavalry to accomplish this is where the strategy comes into play and there's a lot more to it than simply trading fire. Try bringing your cavalry through your lines rather than flanking, and research the wedge early on.

I'm on my sixth or seventh campaign and still mix up my tech order and combat strategy significantly depending on the situation. That's a big improvement from me over the previous total war games where I almost always used the same go to strategy (as many archers as possible protected by just enough melee-shields in front to keep the enemy off the archers).

People need to remember though that any game AI is not all that complicated to beat. Having said that The ETW battle AI is better than M2TW IMO. In ETW battles is all about manuever and fire. Its not terribly complicated but a different strategy style than past TW games. Like all CA games however ETW has its fair share of bugs and problems. CA still likes putting out games with very obvious bugs. Like all CA TW games its going to be the modding community that takes ETW from an okay-good game to a great-excellent game. Its fun now but should become really fun in a few months once the modders work their magic. This is just my own personal opinion though.
