Do you guys remember these two films?? both epics, both from the same time period. both very long and very good films.

it was noteworthy because at the time they were both nominated for a slew of oscars.

And The Last Emporer took a bunch and Empire of the sun didn't any, and in retrospect i can't understand how empire of the sun would be left with zero awards. It was a great film.

anyway, which one did you guys like better??

I'm sure I saw both, but the only one I remember clearly is The Last Emperor. It gets my vote for longevity.

interesting thought.

i'm not sure i agree with it, but interesting.

i'm not saying i disagree with the fact that you remember The Last Emporer better, but that the fact that you remember it better is a good gauge of which movie is better.

the Last Emperor is easier to remember, not necessarily the plot, or the sequence of events but it had a memorable title that effictively brought back much of the movie. i mean it was about china's last emperor.

Empire of the sun had a more intricate plot and it is harder to remember the details of this one.

i enjoyed the story of empire of the sun better because it was more intricate.

I remember seeing both, but the one that made the biggest impression on me (since I can remember more of the plot details) was The Last Emperor.

I voted for John Malkovitch and that cool scene in Empire of the Sun when all the furniture was set up in the middle of nowhere.

I can't say. I remember Empire better, but that is only because I saw it back in December, and haven't seen Emperor in at least a year or two. Both are very well-done movies, in my opinion. Ebert doesn't think incredibly highly of Empire, but I always take his reviews with a grain of salt. They are both movies which evoked strong emotions in me when I watched them, something few contemporary movies do.
