Emphasis on Different Catagories

I believe we should start trying to initialize a "movement" to start posting threads in their proper location instead of general hardware, where a vast array of different posts go. The volume of posts under the other categories is very limited compared to general hardware. I see posts about OSes, video cards, and CPUs, when there are separate forums for these topics.

I agree.
General Hardware
General Computer Hardware Discussion. This is the place to discuss the latest computer hardware issues and technology. Please keep the discussion ON TOPIC, and covering computer hardware ONLY.

The more I thought about it, the more I realize that there is virtually no post in general hardware that cannot be covered in another forum. There is a peripherals forum for add-on cards, video, cpu, troubleshooting for people with problems. Just get rid of General Hardware altogether!

This is an old post that I forgot about, but I decided to do a little searching and bring it back to life. I think it is very imortant to get the posters in general hardware to start branching out. The categories are what get us information about what we want to see.

It would be nice if people could post things in the right category, but even if the Moderators put a big locked sticky at the top telling them to do so, it still wouldn't have an effect on 96% of the people who post in that forum. The only solution that I can see that would work would be for the mods to actually start locking and/or moving threads that are inappropriate, but I have a feeling that they're too busy to take on the (major) job of dealing with (possibly) hundreds of threads each day that pop up in GH and are inappropriate.

Ive made a few suggestions that may help, but its entirely up to AnandTech and Fusetalk. Id like to see at least the "General" removed from the title and call it something like Hardware Technology Forum and have the link moved to the bottom of the list on the homepage. That way it isnt the first place people hop in when they have a problem. They can scroll down to find an appropriate forum. With General in the name it attracts a larger audience thus people tend to get faster answers. Take away that identity and convenience of top billing and maybe that coupled with moving the support forums to the top may help somewhat. But as others alluded to, no way will everyone comply... some people are hard headed by nature.

I have always gotten the fastest answers to my computer questions in OT. Of course I like to push things.
🙂

I agree with the suggestion to take General out of the title. That is exactly what made me start posting in that category when I first joined these forums.
