Hi guys,
Whenever I start a new game or skirmish, maybe two or three mins in the game, my computer will freeze. I checked Westwood's support and all they say is that i don't meet the min requirements (I have a K6-3+ 550MHz and a Radeon 32MBDDR) even though gameplay is smooth as silk.
I'd love to be able to play this game ... the support has been shitty up till now ...
I mean ... they can't even make an effort to support the game with this type of hardware ... even it's capable enough ... :(
anyways ....
Thx for your help

Your system does not meet the minimum req's that's for sure, although that shouldn't be causing the freezing. I know there are some patches available (been a while since I've played)... have you tried a patch yet?

Yeah ... i installed the new patch ... but, I mean ... my comp runs the game totally smoothly, even if my proc is not in the same "class" as the Pentium 2 400 ...
btw ... I went on game's website and guess what ?? the min requirements of the game are P2 400 or AMD K6-2. :(

Thx for your help and keep 'em coming ... !!!!

I would suggest making sure all your drivers are up to date, including maybe motherboard. I don't know much about AMD, but aren't there the VIA 4-in-1s that I always hear solve certain problems? Another way to go about it is to run some tests on your system and see what you get. Sandra, 3dmark, etc. Another suggestion is to get off that POS OS ME and go back to 98. You'd be doing yourself a favor. And finally, as a last resort, get yourself a new computer :D

Well there is no need to use Via-4-in-1's with this cause it's a k63 on a Asus P5A mobo, which I also have so I know it doesn't have a via chipset, it has an Ali Aladdin V.

I would say that there's problems with the software itself. How many patches have been out?
Just because your machine runs it smooth doesn't mean there's not a software problem with either the game or your system configuration. I don't know any of my friends who play the game but I had wanted to try it out cause I liked the old Dune games. I would say that you need to wait til you find another patch or try changing configs. Try different resolutions, sound options, and stuff like that cause it sounds like there's an incompatibility somewhere.

I just doesn't make any sense cuz I have the most up do date drivers and everything, however, westwood tech support emails me back telling me that the K6-2 is not a Pentium 2 class proc. so it won't work well :( . That's just f***ed. BAD PROGRAMMING !!!!!!!! Seriously though ... I have to find a way to make this game work ... I really want to play DUNE!!!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah ... I am getting a new system towards the end of the year, maybe next year ... and I have Win2k not ME !!!! it's not really good !!!

thx for the answers up till now !!!

It's been along time since I played E: BFD. I wonder, do you have a SB Live, or value? I remember some problems in some games with some setups (yeah....lotsa "somes"). You might try a diff sound card or diff slot or disable something about the SB DOS compatible mode drivers (sorry, I haven't had any problems in any games with my Ensoniq....so, I'm foggy on this).

Also, as I recall, there were problems with the copy protection locking this game up on some machines (prolly cause the cd-rom couldn't read it). I'm thinking they even had instructions of what files to copy over to the hard drive to help alleviate this.

Also.....if Daemon Tools will virtual cd this game, you might try that....just to eliminate that it's the copy protection.

I'm just throwing this stuff out as possibilities.

I just looked at your system specs, and see you are using an SB128. I don't recall any problems with this.
