Hello,

Long time lurker and reader.

I wanted to create a thread about the Emperor 1510 and my experiences from the Purchase through general usage. Something I have found lacking on this product, which has made it a little bit interesting to buy sight unseen. I did see an un-packaging and a blog entry here on Andatech.com.au/blog with the Emperor 1510, but haven't seen much from a true consumer (that didn't feel like a paid advertisement). Hopefully this thread can provide that level of detail, while answering any questions first-hand from the product.

What is the Emporer 1510?
A cool looking computer workstation that is supposed to combine comfort with usability and environment emersion.

Why?
Many people that I have shared this with have the same progression of thoughts: "Cool! Awesome! I want that!" soon followed by noticing the price tag and then saying something like "Too expensive - but if I could afford it, I would totally have it" or the "stupid waste of money".
My thought is that I need new office furniture. The stuff I was looking for was more conservative that would end up costing about 6-7k for all of the fixings (chair, desk, hutch, shelves, etc.) For a comparable price point, I can have this instead. So I did.

Ordering Experience:
I have been primarily working with Gianni from MWELabs directly in Canada. Gianni has been helpful and knows about the product. I wouldn't say there has been any great sales "whiz-bang" show or experience; the experience has basically been a normal conversations about a product between two people. On questions that Gianni couldn't answer, he was transparent and told me he didn't know and would find out. Thus far, he has found answers to my questions in a timely manner.

There was one snag in the ordering process in which the Emperor 1510's current design couldn't accommodate that I thought was going to be a deal breaker; cabling. In my dialog, I expressed that I was going to be running three BenQ XL2420T monitors. It was extremely important that these monitors were run at 120Hz. Through another separate and horrible experience dealing with BenQ - it was confirmed that I needed to run DVI-D Dual Link cables to achieve this (only took 6 calls to Taiwan and a 15 email threads). Where this became an issue with the Emperor 1510 was that the tubes that the wires are tucked in are too small to support the three DVI-D's. Typically, the Emperor comes with Display Port or HDMI.

Gianni put me in touch with a guy named Martin, who is the president / designer of the system. We spoke about the cabling issue to which MWELabs also contacted BenQ for confirmation and conducted trials. After it was confirmed that I needed to run DVI - a custom engineered solution was added (without additional cost to me). It looks like this may be a new option going forward to future Emperor 1510 owners - allowing any cabling type to be ran.

Options:
For options with the Emperor 1510, I decided to mostly keep it as-is. I ordered the unit in Black, although I prefer the color White in the pictures (my wife quickly reminded me that it wouldn't look so cool with orange Doritos stains on the side of it...) I did get the Laptop tray option ($125.00) for my desk phone and bag of Doritos, along with upgrading the integrated sound system to the Bose Companion 5. Other options were available, but I always use headphones for most of my sound purposes. Therefore, the Bose Companion 5 was suitable.

Shipping:
Ouch. Quotes came in around $700-800.00 for the crate. Further, the crate is too large to fit in my interior doors - so I have to hire a moving company to uncrate it and carry the Emperor 1510 to my office (flight of stairs, around a few corners, etc.). Maybe in a true emperor style, I will sit in the unit after un-boxing while they carry me around. I am expecting delivery to be at the end of next week or soon thereafter (October 5th).

Computer not Included:
As indicated on the MWELabs website - the Emperor 1510 is just the workstation itself. The user is required to buy their own monitor and computer. Here is what I will be running with the setup:

- Intel Core i7-3930K Hexa-Core Processor @ 3.2 Ghz (12 MB Cache)
- ASRock Extreme11 Motherboard
- 16GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 2400MHz
- (2) EVGA GTX 680 with 4GB Video cards in SLI
- (3) BenQ XL2420T Monitors
- Coolmaster Case
- Corsair H100 CPU Cooler
- Corsair HX750W PSU
- Corsair M60 Mouse
- SteelSeries Zboard Stealth keyboard
- Beyerdynamic MMX 300 Headset with Astro MixAmp Pro

Pictures:
Here are some of the generic pictures:

I will update the thread with more details after I get it in my hands with detailed pictures, review, etc.
Thanks,
Mike

Any updates on this? I have been watching this product for the past year or so as well, but from a home office rather than gamer perspective. It would take less space than my traditional desk and be more optimized for serious work, so I am curious how it would function in that capacity.

Thanks for creating this thread, its been frustrating to find any real information on this chair.

I took delivery of it last Friday. I took a bunch of pictures and need to upload them all. I have under the weather so I haven't really had a chance to write much about it. I have a few pictures I will post though.

General thoughts:

-- It took a little bit for me to get use to the following mouse location. Keyboard sits higher than the mouse. Also, I am a "palmer" rather than a "clawer" I guess it is called? A thicker mouse pad would help, but I ended up putting my palm on the base which works fine.

-- It is comfortable. It isn't as nice of a chair that I have had as an office chair before where it is pillowy-leather that makes you want to take a nap. Yet, it is comforatable and it keeps your back in a nice position with little fatigue.

-- When you are in a hurry to exit the chair, it is sometimes inconvenient. There have been times when I needed to answer the door, go to the restroom, etc. and you have to wait an additional 7 seconds before you can go when you make the decision to get up. Seven seconds doesn't sound like a lot, but count it out loud...

-- Lots of head turning for side monitors. I use three BenQ XL2420T monitors and due to distance in which I sit to them, I have to turn my head more frequently than I did with my desk setup. It isn't a bad thing, but noticable.

-- Would be great for a Surface / Touchscreen style setup with Windows 8... I could see a lot of cool things in the future with this setup!

-- The Bose Companion 5 (upgraded from the 3) is nice. Some things it sounds a little iffy on, but many NetFlix movies it simulates 5.1 pretty well. Makes it feel like someone is behind me to the left or right on many movies.

-- Solid device. Feels like a tank. The steel is noticable in the "heavy" feel of the keyboard tray, arm rests, etc.

-- When you tilt the chair back, it actually makes you feel like you are tipping over the first time you use it. Due to the curves in the seat, you really need a pillow behind your head, else your head falls back.

-- Motors are quiet and the LED's look pretty in the dark.

-- Not easy to move in interior halls of a house. Yes - it fit through all the doors, but the moving crew I paid sure earned their money. Going down stairs where you cannot grab the mount points was not easy for them.

Not to nit pick, but you can't "review" an item that you haven't yet taken delivery of.

Sure I can... I can review the order process, customizations and communications, tracking and delivery, etc.

A few pictures until I have time to take some detailed stuff:

Wow, how did I miss this thread? Glad you bumped it up.

I saw this product about a year ago myself. Ran across it while surfing youtube. There is an American company that makes something similar to it but not as nice. Cheaper though. Forget its name. Anyway, I considered making something like it myself. Figured I could make it out of heavy duty pvc piping or metal pipe myself. It'd be something more fixed like but the chair and triple monitors could be arranged properly. No motor for rotating the chair back or anything fancy like that. I haven't tackled the design yet. Not high on my list of wants I guess but I do think about it from time to time. Wouldn't fit in my current house anyway. Next year though we are thinking about buying a new house so... ::gleeful laugh::

Hi there skott i belive for me it was also 12 months when i saw the emperor and just wanted one. did some research and the only supplier here in australia had them for $7500. it was a letdown as i needed a new workstation but the price was too far from reach.

I decided i would make my own based on the emperor and another workstation i saw called The Gravitonus Ergonomic Workstation. I took some principles from both and started the build. I am 3/4 through the build at the moment. and hope to finish soon. the seat i got was out of a sports sedan so it has the electrical tilt, trim and lumbar support.

ill link the photos

you may see some changes i can make. ill post the end result when finished. Joel

Hi Joel,

Can you provide more info of what kind of material did you use for your chair? Can you put together some instructions. It would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm curious if he ever finished as well. Judging by the fact he only has 3 posts here on AT he probably no longer peruses this forum.

Cool setup!
You can watch YouTube, read email and be doing real PC work all at the same time.
