Nah, you make decisions based on intelect. Use your mind, reason, and logic.....and deal with the emotions that ensue. It leads to better decisions.

What makes you say that? I've lead a fine life, but I can see where jealousy, which is the one I'd get rid of, has caused myself and the people around me problems. It just seems to lead to other negative emotions. They all have relevance in your life and I agree that you do need them, but I wouldn't mind seeing what life would be like to eliminate one negative emotion! :)

I have a feeling that there'd be an equal and opposite reaction, just like Newton's law. Our brains seek chemical balance in all matters, emotion is no different. Perhaps the other emotions would strengthen to keep the balance between happiness and depression.

I'd get rid of anger, on second thought. It's led me to too many damn stupid decisions.

Emotion clouds judgement and hinder the logical thinking process. On the other hand, how boring would life be if you didn't feel anything?

I would get rid of anger/hatred.

I would seriously be worried if I was in a dangerous situation with someone who was not afraid, its how they control their fear.

Jealousy is not really a bad emotion unless it gets out of control. Yes, alot of people have jealousy issues and it goes overboard, but without a little bit of jealousy, you would seem unconcerned with your significant other or close friend which could have it's own consequences on those relationships.

I wouldn't want to get rid of any of them.

The one I dislike and like the most is empathy.

emoticon != emotion

wtf, I also read the thread title as Emoticon - do we really need them all?

If I had to say one... It'd be... ooh. Uh... greed. Then hatred. Then jealousy.

I'd get rid of lust
Lust is a critical emotion in most romantic relationships. Lusting after your wife (and her lusting after you) is a critical bond. I'd hate to see that bond broken.

I'm have a hard time thinking of any emotion that isn't crucial to human life as we know it.

Even jealousy. If you aren't green with envy when others get things you want, you'd never work hard to get them yourself. Say goodbye to anyone working. Economy will go in shambles, we'd be in ruins.

The only thing I can think of is depression. That is, if we can still keep sadness or even extreme sadness. Then, if that is possible, I'd get rid of depression.
