I don't think that just any other RB could have done what Emmitt has accomplished.

Yes, Barry Sanders could have if he chose to. Key work is could, it's not fair to say no one else could have done it.

He might have. He might have got injured. You notice Emmitt leads in all time carries, he was one of the most well conditioned backs ever. He tooks hits left and right all day everyday and came out on top. That is one of the many reasons he is a great running back. Maybe not the best, but without a doubt great. And no one can take that from him, SO STOP TRYING!

I hope he retires, then Barry decides to come back and take the record from him. 😀

That would be so cool! 🙂 But Mariucci already called Barry up. Barry said only if the Lions would let him talk to other teams would he consider coming back.

Barry isnt going to come back because the Lions will not waive him. He will not play for the Lions.

Smith isnt going to retire, he has offers out there on the table(Cowboys allowed his agent to talk to other teams). I wouldnt be suprised if he signs with some team by the end of next week. He had 975 yards behind one of the worst offensive lines last year. Put him behind a good line and he could have another 1500 yr season or two left in him.

well said.. he's a very capable running back
He produced almost 1000 yards behind the worst offensive line in football

With even a mediocre line, he could produce a 1200-1500 yard season..

As a previous post said; its now official.

think it cheapens the record in every way, thinkin that you are best of all time, but not even being the best fo your generation by far.

No one is saying he is the best, just that he has the most yards.

He is fo sho one of the best.

Im sad to see him leave my Boys.
