Eminem.... and battles

he talks about how he can't remember the words he wrote... but it seems like in a battle, a lot of the words are in response to what the other guy says. so is he just writing down a few words that rhyme, then puts together an entire rap on the spot? or does he anticipate what they'll say? anyways, much respect, i could never put words together like that.

I think the thing with the battles is they make it up on the spot...
I'm sure they figure out some rhymes to add in before hand

the rhymes they plan before hand are for when they cant come up with something on the spot, give them some time to think...

I know last time I got drunk I was bustin out some pretty gangsta rhymes 😉

Most of it is improvisation.
While you are preparing for your turn, you quickly make a list of the easy shots to take on your opponent, and while you're spouting them out, you can slip in pre-fabbed all purpose insults (usu. racial slurs, pokes at their mom, etc.) while you think of the clinchers...often retorts that use their original rhyme and turn it back on them.

If you listen to people freestyle a lot you'll see where they are using something prepared versus making up a rhyme on the spot.

FYI: Not 100% accurate but..... Eminem was discovered while a producer's assistant was listening to a radio show called freestyle. That's alludes that they make rhymes up on the spot. I think it's the same with battles.

BTW: Battles are similar to how poets used to do brags in the olden days.
