Emergency Eject on Drive...

Psych

I had a CD in the drive the other day and I needed to get it out while the computer was still on. The normal eject didn't work, so I pocked in the emergency eject slot. The cd suddenly starts spinning into overdrive and I think I just barely saved it from being scratched beyond recovery! Is this sort of thing supposed to happen??? By the way, the read/write laser is on the bottom of the tray, so even if the disc was spinning like crazy, the lens or anything couldn't be damaged, right?
