They're the same drive, only the software bundle differs. Get the one you can find for less.

Have you looked at the pioneer A03 model??? I have always thought HP made overpriced just average stuff (ie their scanners, printers, cd-rws, etc.). Pretty much the whole line of products...I don't pay for the name...

Doesn't Pioneer make DVD-RW? Not DVD+RW?

Ugh, too many standards... Ultimatly Sony will win... Ever since Beta tapes, they won't let one slip away.

Of course, that is my prediction.... it could very well be wrong.

The Pioneer is DVD-RW while the HP and Sony are DVD+RW. The major pitfall of the Pioneer vs the other 2 is that Pioneer is only a 1x RW unit while the others are 2.4x which is a pretty large difference in time between full DVD burns.

So is it worth getting one now, or should we wait till we see what standard wins outright? Also do these drives work like standard DVD ROM drives, I mean can they also be used to read standard DVDs?

The HP DVD100i is real sweet. Just beginning to play with one now :D

Avoid the Pioneer unit. It's still way overpriced, and is DVD-RW, not DVD+RW. Two entirely different formats, incompatible.

Looks like DVD+RW has the edge. My money's on that one. Not much money, mind you, but money all the same.

Still too pricey, though. My buy trigger is set at < $300 for one.
