Emergency Case Help

Okay, so I went out today and got fans because my system was overheating. I just now got around to putting them in and as I'm putting my front panel back on I notice there's a bulge in the center. I press harder (You know that whole "Don't force things into place!" bullsh1t? Yeah, kinda ignored that.) and out pops the temperature readout screen and power/reset button thing. Is it okay if I just leave that hanging down in front of the case? I mean it's kinda ghetto but I NEED those intake fans in the front. Yea or nea?

Do they make significantly smaller fans that 80x25? If they made an 80x10 or 80x15 I'd be tempted, but I went through too much work to get these screwed into place just right so I'm not going to do that. Plus, I spent fvcking $43 on fans today because I had to have them in order to prevent my system from melting (not really, but it was too hot with the new tv tuner for my comfort). They're nice fans so I'm not complaining, though I could've gotten the same for about $25 online.

I appreciate you not threadcrapping for once. :)

Basically it's like this:

C..F..C
A..A..A..~~Power/Reset/LCD Readout
S..N..S
E..S..E

~ = front panel wires

You should come back into Ventrilo sometime... I think the people you didn't like that one time are gone.

And thanks for the advice. Your wires are fine and everything?

Did you perhaps mount the fan on the front of the front of the case when it should have been on the inside of the front?

Well I mean 10mm isn't a whole lot, .1 cm isn't it? I'm just thinking that it's not enough clearance for the little panel thing.

get a better case, then? :)

I have Antec 3000B and 3700bqe, which have room for a 12 cm fan at the front and back. Nice and cool. :)

I meant diameter, but I didn't actually measure ...

edit: I'll be damned, it's 18mm. I wonder if I got that mixed up with the width of a dime being 1mm? I know a dime was good for some sort of metric measurement

this is what i originally thought, but i think the tabs just didnt line up correctly and the stuff popped off. is that correct aplefka?

either way,it wont hurt anything as long as no bare wires are exposed so it wont short out. you could always try to duct tape it from the inside of the front panel to hold it into place so it wont be hanging down. just be sure you secure it enough to handle the pressure when you push the switch.

Ehh... Maybe, but I'm not going through all that again. I just want to use my computer... updating the thread with pics in about 10 mins... gonna ziptie the fpanel wires so they don't get in the way of the fan then boot up and post pics from that machine.

And shimsham, you don't threadcrap always, you just say unneccessary stuff sometimes. They lined up correctly but the fans are too thick for the power button. Honestly I don't need the LCD readout, I mean mobo monitor is a close enough estimate and is always a few degrees higher so I err on the side of caution as it is. I'm thinking electrician's tape instead of duct tape though, after I finish with the small zipties.

hell, we all do that.:beer::thumbsup::)

from the pics it looks like the readout should just pop back in. but it sounds like you have the fan mounted on the outside, since there isnt room for the readout to go back in. it should go inside the case, between the chassis and the drive cage, like this.

damn, i need to dust my case.

Hmmm... maybe I'll do that tomorrow. I also think I'm just going to put all my fans to intake save the top one for exhaust. My case temperature has actually increased 10-12 degrees since add the three fans (two 80x25 intakes in the front, one 120x25 exhaust in the back).

a lot of people recommed to have "negative case pressure" ie: more air blowing out than in. more than likely the case is designed to have the 2 front as intake, and the top and rear as exhaust. that way the hot air will leave the case more efficiantly.

IME, its just trial and error when it comes to fans and intake/exhaust in relation to the case model, fan model, and ambient temps.
