I am using Foundation Flash 5 to learn flash. The case study they have in there that brings all the skills together involves me taking one movie clip that does one thing, and then embedding it in another that does something else resulting in one clip that does two things. However the first clip will not play within the second clip though I have followed the directions given. If you have the book its the case study section of Chapter 6. If anyone needs more clarifying here are the directions given for just embedding the clip:
What I am trying to accomplish is this: take a sequence of 5 dots that were alphaed down in order, mirrored, rotated 180 degrees, and made to spin. Then embed these dots into another movie that will cause on mouse over to have the destination appear and then fade out. Here are the directions for the embedding as I got the dots to spin easily.
1.) Create a new movie clip symbol and call it "Home mc". The mc stands for movie clp, a common naming convention amongst Flash designers.
2.) Rename the movie clip's default layer 'Spinner' - this is where we will embed the spinner animation for our button.
3.) At frame 1 on the Spinner layer, insert the 'Spinner' movie clip from the library. Ensure that you place the Spinner movie clip at the center point of the Home mc clip: use the crosses to guide you.
4.) Now add a keyframe at frame 10 so that the spinner animation plays throughout the length of the Home mc clip.
These are the steps that involve embedding the symbol. And I cannot get them right. Could it be the way I am inserting the spinner symbol (drag and drop from open library panel)?
