I want do a simple to do list. Just a text file, but I want it embedded in my desktop. I've tried lots of apps and none of them work the way I want.

I found this, but it requires Active Desktop which Vista no longer has. Its basically a text file with a little edit button. Its perfect.

Is there a workaround or something?

I want something really simple. I can pop those out from the sidebar which is decent, but then I have an empty sidebar blocking the right half of my tiny laptop screen.

Fair enough although you do realise you don't actually need the sidebar displaying as you can hide it and still have the pad on your desktop behind all your windows. :)

I couldn't figure out how to do that. And, I don't really like the little note pad. It has a very limited number of lines.

I found a program called Samurize that does CPU monitoring and stuff. But it also lets you embed a text file on your desktop.
