My mom's subaru justy had the GAYEST little horn ever. THe one on my sentra isn't bad, although I'd love to have one that makes a person shake when they hear it in another car, since I use the horn a couple times a week.

Now that's funny...."makes a person shake!"

:D
Do you want to? Apparently we can get an upgraded horn for under $20.

Now THAT would be awesome! :D

How loud are these aftermarket horns? The sentra one is a normal horn, but I'd like one that is among the loudest that you're legally allowed to buy. Are they ridiculous?

They're pretty damn loud....especially if you have more than one. Not air-horn loud, but they'll get your attention a lot better than the stock "hamster being strangled" model will.

Perhaps i"ll get a second alternator and get 30 of them hooked up together and drive around with earmuffs on.

my accord sounds like a doppler shifted death moo of a constipated cow. there's like two tones and they cut in and out so it sounds like two little econboxes honking at the same time. or like the doppler shifted cow.

the horn on my 87 dodge aries sucks too.

I just tell my friends it's an internal horn, you cant hear it outside the car, or even over the radio, its just there to ease my conscience

I'm picturing a certain scene in The Mask involving horns..... That's pretty much the effect you should shoot for IMO. :D

Oh God, I'm cryin' :D

But seriously, do those cars use a relay to send power to the horn(s)? It may be that they're not bothering with all that extra heavy wire and components, so they're limited to what horns can be used.

Depends on the car. You have to do some semi-creative wiring to add horns on a motorcycle or you'll blow fuses. I'd guess you might have to do the same on some cars. I'll dig around and see if I can find the "how-to" on one of the motorcycle groups. Doesn't require an EE or anything as I recall.

EDIT- this looks applicable.

Yeah, who's going to get out of the way when they hear "meep meep"?

A guy I worked with was a die-hard truck guy, NRA, republican, hunter, buy American, you know the type. He hated bikers (bicycle) who rode on the left side of the white line when there was plenty of room on the shoulder. Sure, they have a right to be where they were, but he didn't like it.

He installed a huge air horn under his hood. This thing looked like he ripped it off a fire truck. He honked it for me once in a parking lot. Even from the side of the truck this thing was deafening. He told me once he came within a few feet of a bicyclist and let the thing rip when doing 50+. The biker ended up in the ditch.

Sure the guy was a complete a$$, but the image busted me up.

Yep, that's the idea. I'm just thinking a car with such an aemic horn may not even be using a relay. Can't just slap a 7 amp horn or two on there and expect it to work with the stock setup.

I had a guy in a Hummer (H1) do that to me once when I was on my bike. Those things have un-effing-believably loud horns. I could hear the guy and his bimbo laughing at my obvious shock (I must have jumped three feet) as they drove by. I'm sure he wasn't laughing after I spotted the car at a mini-mall down the road and gave each of the valve stems a quarter-turn. Nothing like a sloooow leak in all four tires that you can't track down. :|

dude just get a gun, it will grab more attention than any horn, and you can move it from car to car. :D

I think that most cars I've seen use a horn relay, but I'm not sure. It is definitely something to check on before getting a new horn.
