helping a friend with his PC and had to format the HD .... I booted from a boot disk and want to install win2K .... when it boots from the floopy it gave a option to start with CD Rom support which I chose ... but when pull up the cd rom form the command promt and type setup so it can install win2k from cd, it gives me an error the setup cannot run in DOS mode .... have not done this in a while and feel like a noob ....any help will be appreciated
thanx in advance

Don't be embarrased to ask. You need to boot from the Win2k CD or if the machine can't boot off the CD put the CD into another machine and run the makeboot.exe file on the CD and it will create the 4 boot disks that Win2k needs. The boot disk your using is probably from Win98/ME.

You pulled the words right out of my mouth mikecel79.

On thing about the AnandTech forums...never be embarassed to ask anything. Nobody is going to flame you like some other boards.

there is no setup.exe to run for a win2k install,it's better to boot off the cd & install from it but if you cant go in the i386 folder on your CD & type " Winnt " this will start the setup process.

thanx guys for a very prompt response .... will try what U guys have suggested ...... and let U know how it turns out .....this why I love AT 🙂
