Hi Guys,

I am embarrassed because I work in IT and I know nothing about networking. I have a cable modem at my house which I use with Road Runner. Right now my wife?s G4 desktop is hooked up to it. I have an old Barricade SMC router that I used to use in college lying around. I need to hook up my Dell Desktop and Her Mac to the router. If I just plug the two into the router will they all work? Also How do I network printers for both computers. We have one laser and one 3 in 1 printers. Thanks for the help guys.

plug cable modem into the WAN port, the plug PC 1 into port 1 and PC 2 into port 2. If the router has the printer sharing then plug printer into printer port. it is really easy to set up a router!

Since it's an old router, I'd first reset it to factory defaults. The SMC will connect directly to most cable modem accounts and function in default configuration. You can then tinker with the configuration to add anything you desire, forward ports, etc.

Once you get the computers running, you can consider networking the printers. What are the printers attached to? I don't know enough about the Mac to know if you can share a printer easily on the Mac.
