emailing when i'm subscribed to a thread

hello--

I read through the faq but I didn't see an answer for this. I want to be able to subscribe to a thread (so that it is conveniently linked in my "today" section) without getting an email everytime someone replies. Is this possible?

EDIT: okay, I found under "customize" that I can have my subscriptions sent by PM instead of e-mail, which I prefer, so I checked that box. However, can I just have subscriptions hangout in the subscriptions box in the today section, and not notify me at all?
