I would always write a cover page to go with a resume.

If you are emailing it you can put your covering letter in the body of the email and then attach the resume as a word document.

It's good practice to have a cover letter.... (letter explaining why you seek the position and think you'd be an asset to the company).

A cover page is strictly optional...but it's sometimes best to keep your resume as short as possible....1 and a half pages is best.

Definitely. And you should start it like this:

"ATTN:

MY NAME IS MRS RAMSY WILLIAMS, THE CHIEF FINANCIAL/LEGAL ADVISER TO LATE HEAD OF STATE OF NIGERIA, GENERAL SANI ABACHA. I GOT YOUR ADDRESS FROM A FRIEND AND WISH TO USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO NOTIFY YOU OF AN EXISTING AMOUNT OF MONEY WE WILL LIKE TO TRANSFER OVERSEAS FOR THE PURPOSE OF INVESTMENT IN YOUR COUNTRY."

definitely - a cover page is a must if you want to create a good impression. If you are emailing your resume, the email itself should be your cover page, but as its an email it doesn't have to be too long. 3 or 4 paragraphs, maybe?

good luck!
