Emailing my Senator/Rep for gov class, any suggestions on what current debateable issue to bring up?

Pick something out of the USA Patriot Act.

Of particular interest in my latest line of work is Section 1012, a section which requires background checks before issuance of hazardous materials endorsements.

Plenty of trucking companies in the U.S. suck so bad (Stevens Transport, Schneider, Covenant, FFE) that the only way they can get drivers is to constantly run their own driving schools. Right now they can take Nick the New Guy and turn him into a driver within three weeks. Once background checks are required, they're looking at two months before the guy can get a hazmat endorsement (a requirement at most companies).

The companies want instant checks. Who's gonna' win - big money or the law as it is currently written? I hope it's the law so even we who are unorganized can run our mouths a little bit to these big companies.

BTW, if you ever see a Schneider truck (completely orange tractor and trailer) get the hell out of the area as quick as you can. Those guys are liable to hurt you.
