Email scanner won't connect with server

I have used the AVG Free virus scanning software by Grisoft for a few months now with no problems. A couple of weeks ago, Outlook started hanging up when I opened it. A popup box labelled AVG Email Scanner opens over the sys tray. In the box it says connecting to the ip of my email service. It never connects. If I disable the email scanner Outlook works fine. I uninstalled and redownloaded the program but I have the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong?

Thanks,

Outlook uses a plugin that works directly with AVG and doesn't use the Personal Email Scanner (EMS) which is the generic email scanner for all but supported email clients. You may use either one, but the plugin does provide more features that can be accessed inside of Outlook and the EMS doesn't. You should only use one or the other but not both.

Thanks for your reply but I am not sure about it. If there is a resident email scanner in Outlook, how do I turn it off so that I dont get conflicts with the AVG scanner? If my question is dumb please explain why.

Thanks again...

No. I am using the NVidia firewall that came with the motherboad.

Another detail: The popup says - AVG E-mail Scanner AutoPOP3:Connecting to ens1.eatel.net. My mail server is at mail.eatel.net. Is this the problem?

Did you set up a manual connection for AVG when you installed it.

It does sound like you've crossed the POP settings with the AVG update url/server settings
