email "real" IP

there are programs, some free, that will email you your IP, but all the ones I've found can not work when you are using a router. There are programs that will obtain your IP locally even when using a router- but I can't find one however that will do both, that is, email me my IP when a router is being used.

Any help welcome!

Why would you need to do such a thing?

if you are on a windows machine, open the command line and type ipconfig it will tell you your ip adress

Even if they are trying to scam people into paying $12.95 for a ports check that Gibson Research (grc.com) offers for free ("Shields Up").

Oh no, port 80 is open! Oh wait, I run a webserver 😉.

Anyway, either of those sites will do what you want, even through your router.

for example-
If you want to runa small server on your home machine so you can reach get needed files during the day you need the IP, or..
you want your daughter who lives away to be able to upload family photos to your server, etc....

The problem assumes you want notification by email to be automatic and that no one is available to get the info where the computer is.

NO-IP go there and register and then get your routers IP, and then you will have to give your pc a domain, then you will have to download thier simple app that runs in the background so that when your when your ip changes it forwards the newest to thier DNS server, and then you will have to forward whatever port you are running your ftp server on at your routers config page.
