Email notification whenever someone quotes you

I think it would be useful to have an option to be notified by email whenever someone quotes you. This would be useful for when you don't want to subscribe to an entire thread, but want to know when someone responds to a particular point you made.

I don't know how easy this would be to implement, but I think I'd be very handy.

Anyone else agree?

Because a person has the right to defend themselves?

Seriously though, I doubt this feature would ever work. Quotes can be edited in and out, unlike posts which can only be entirely removed by Mods.

I just thought the email notification could be sent whenever someone replies to a thread by clicking on the "Quote" option in a post you made.

It'd sort of be a mini-subscription.

I don't understand what you're saying about people defending themselves.

Based on the inferences I've made over the years watching Jason's comments in here, I'm going to throw out a guess that even if he wanted to implement it, the software architecture as it's currently written would not allow for such a feature without massive changes (in other words, It Won't Be Happening). It's probably the same reason that the software can't be made to email or PM us only once between visits when a subscribed thread is replied to.

But I might do that if I only want to reply to a specific portion of your post, or else maybe I just want to edit out those billions of nested quotes that happen frequently in some near flame-fests, or just about anything in the OT forum.
And speaking of which, nested quotes themselves would then generate loads of e-mail traffic, most of it useless. Probably not a feasible solution.

If someone wants to get a response from you, there's always the PM feature I suppose.
