So when in outlook and I click on a email link it invokes about 60+ internet explorer screens, has anyone else encountered this problem before? I have ran ad aware, spybot and my normal antivirus software and nothing has helped. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You mean any link to any site, sent to you by any person? Or is it just one particular email you got?

Where does the link point to? More than likely the web page is using scripts to open all these windows. It's not an issue with the email link, it's an issue with the page.

Did the email come from someone you trust not to be sending you to sites that are "bad"?

If it happens on every link, what page(s) get opened up? Is it 60 windows that all go to the same link that you clicked?

All the emails are from people I trust. Weblinks are fine it is just email links. When I click on the email link which is in the format (mail to: email address here) it tries to open the email link with internet explorer instead of Outlook.

Okay that's completely different. Hmm.

You can probably ignore the long text below. It was my first idea for fixing the problem, but then I realized there's an easier way.

Open the Internet Properties dialog (either from Internet Explorer, or from the desktop icon, or from Control Panel). On the Programs tab, make sure Email is set to use Outlook. I'm thinking maybe it's set to Hotmail right now, which would cause links to open a browser window but I don't know why it would make 60 windows open.

(ignore this part probably)
You can check to see whether that URL type is associated in an odd way. Open a Windows Explorer window, go to Tools, Options. On the File Types tab, locate the URL:MailTo Protocol and click the Advanced button. There should probably only be "open" as the actions available. If you edit that, it should show that it's pointing to Outlook's executable file. If it's not set to that, you can try hitting the Set Default button. That may or may not set it to msimn.exe, which is Outlook Express. I don't know if you're actually using Outlook Express or Outlook. If you can't make it automatically link to Outlook, you may be able to force Outlook to reset the association by making it not the default application for mail.

Thanks I am actually going to try your second suggestion as I already had tried your first suggestion a while back. I will let you know if the second idea works as soon as I get a chance. Thanks for your replies and suggestions.
